But it only blocked 80 percent of Windows threats. This antivirus did a better job recognizing Windows threats in Safari than those trying to download in Chrome. While Windows threats won’t attack your Mac computer or laptop, it’s important to block them so you don’t accidentally pass them to a Windows device.
Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac does have its flaws. While it doesn’t create any noticeable lag during virus scans, it does take a long time to perform them. We noticed it took nearly three times longer than average for Bitdefender to finish. It’s also not the easiest program to use. Some functions can only be accessed in the online portal and not from the desktop dashboard. This can be frustrating if you’d like all settings, tools and functions together in one place.
Because this is a basic program, it doesn’t have a lot of additional features. For example, it doesn’t include parental controls or a password manager. A personal firewall and spam filters also aren’t included. Bitdefender doesn’t have a higher-priced program compatible with Mac that includes these features, either. You would have to purchase a different program, like Norton Security Standard, that includes these features, or invest in a full Mac security suite. Both options will cost significantly more than the basic antivirus software.
