The CanoScan LiDE220's maximum dpi is 4800 x 4800 with a 48-bit color depth with over 281 trillion possible colors. That's relatively high, but high-end photo scanners, such as Epson's $1,000 Perfection V850 Pro Photo Scanner, can go much higher, as high as 6,400dpi and beyond. https://omgbits.netlify.app/best-combination-scanner-for-mac-2018.html.

Banktivity is a personal money manager made for Mac users. The newest version, Banktivity 6, is designed specifically for MacOS Sierra. GoodBudget is a simple. While a step up from previous versions, Quicken 2019 for Mac still falls short of the gold standard, Quicken for Windows. The addition of a web-based platform is a welcome addition. For some, Quicken for Mac might be a usable native MacOS personal finance app.

Q2018 R3.4 doesn't have 2018 in the tax year drop down. I'm not sure what the point of having 2016 since there is not more planning for 2016. I want to plan for 2018. The planning for 2017 is over. Make the planning tool useful and provide a way to plan for future years. I don't care if the tax rates are off - just use previous year if you need to (with a note of course) and patch the rates when a major change comes through (like this year).

Quicken 2018 For Mac Review

No tax rules for 2018 yet. I'm assuming that will get added in a future update when the US government decides what they are going to do.
  • edited December 2017
The support info says 2018 should show 2017 and 2018. But it doesn't - looks just like Quicken 2017. I can fill in the rates - but no place to put them, do scenarios, etc.

They are still working on implementing all this new tax legislature that was recently passed by the government.

Echoing UKR's sentiment. How can Q POSSIBLY have the info for planning 2018 taxes when the tax bill was just passed, and the IRS hasn't released the new rules yet?

According to documents obtained by ABC Radio, the suit, filed Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, charges the band with 'breach of fiduciary duty,' 'breach of oral contract' and 'intentional interference with prospective economic advantage,' among other complaints. What band is opening for fleetwood mac tour 2018.

I don't expect it to have the rates, or all the details, but at least the option to specify 2018 as a year for tax planning scenarios. Or say, on that web page, 'when it is available.'

Power users, more than ever, need to do various scenarios NOW for 2018 taxes based on the new bill. Sure would be nice if Quicken were to update Quicken Subscription Premier 2018 Tax Planner to include all that's available (including your caveats) regarding the newly passed bill. A major value added for the product. Yours truly, along with others (I'm sure) would be willing to beta test if asked if it helps to make the update a reality sooner versus later.

So, explain to us EVERYTHING that’s in the new tax bill.
Have you read it all? Come up with all the calculations?
The 2017 tax laws are just being finalized in the upcoming weeks.
Berating Quicken over 2018 tax law not included is unreasonable on your part.

We are beating a dead horse here. No need to continue the debate.

I am using QW18 H&B R4.7 and the tax planner only shows selection for years 2016 and 2017. 2018 totals (YTD and projected) for appropriate categories are shown but NOT the entry detail as has been the case in past versions. I too do NOT expect Q to have updated for 2018 tax law changes since the law was signed on 12/23/17. But the update and fixes to the bugs (noted above) should be a high priority.

I have Windows 2018 Premier (R 3.4) and the Tax Planner for tax year 2017 suddenly doesn't work as of 1/1/2018. It worked FINE thru yesterday (12/31/2017). I understand why the tax planner isn't ready for tax year 2018, but 2017 should still work fine, but it doesn't. Hope a solution/release is coming soon.

I'm still running 2017 version, and will probably stay there until the dust settles on the subscription model. I'm a long time Quicken user. I've always updated whenever a new release came out.
For years I have had to reset the computer's clock to deal with taxes from the previous year; 2017 in this case.
    Good luck.

Don't understand how having the Tax Planner set to tax year 2017 doesn't automatically filter accepting ONLY 2017 transactions to be used.
Craziest programming in a product I've ever seen. Since when does having a 2018 date but specifying 2017 as the tax year give you 2018 transactions???
Seems like something a high school student would have figured out to do by applying a specific year filter.

What are you trying to 'plan' for a tax year that is over? You can get all of your 'tax data' now from 'tax' reports no (tax summary and tax schedule)?
I agree that as of this moment, the tax planner is useless since you can't do anything for 2018. Totally busted area of the app.

Michael, Some of us still have to pay our 4th Quarter Estimated Taxes for 2017. If we received larger than expected Capital Gains on investments at the end of December (downloaded after 1/1/18), we may need to adjust the amount of this final Estimated Tax payment. While we may have most of the transactions to file our taxes, we may not be ready to file so it would be much easier if we could look at the effect of the late year income on our estimated taxes in the Tax Planner.
I just updated from Quicken H&B 2016 to 2018 hoping that the tax planner would work better for the 2017 tax planner. I forgot that we have this problem every January 1. I may have to try Donald McCullough's approach of setting the computer date back to 2017 to see if it works. I agree with DesertOasis that it should look at 2017 transactions if you have it set to 2017 as the tax year. What I don't understand is why some of the projected values have 2017 data and others have 2018 values.

Gotcha. Every time in the past I had to mess with estimated taxes, it was always a set amount every quarter. LOL Glad I don't have to do it anymore! Hopefully the date trick works.
Make sure you take your computer off the network when you do it, as Windows auto updates the date and time from the internet.

Michael, Thanks for the heads up about the network connection updating the date and time. I would not have thought about that issue.

Since you don't have a 2018 drop down for the tax planner, it appears the 2018 data is just being added on to the 2017 data. I know the tax law was just signed and the IRS has not published its new tables, but this needs to be changed as soon as possible.

there is a check box in date and time setting screen in windows that turns network time sync on and off, no need to take computer off the network when resetting date to work around this bug.

whichever floats your boat. It's just that if you need to not have it update for several minutes/hours, make sure you override it somehow. Or it will update in the middle of your session.
I recommended unplugging because for many people turning off a setting is something they forget to go back and turn on. And then it breaks a ton of other things, including OS patching, etc.
So do what works for you and you can remember to undo when you are done.

Regardless of well meaning “workarounds,” Quicken 2018’s tax planner worked well for tax year 2017 until 2018. I know. I used it frequently. It should still work for the 2017 tax year the same way during 2018 that it worked when it was 2017. It is flawed programming that needs to be corrected by Quicken immediately. And better tested before Q 2019.

I really don't look for anything to update Tax Planner until after the Fed publishes the new Tax Reform Act Rules, Rates, Regs, and whatever else that has changed. I'm guessing it will be in one of the normal periodic program updates. Hopefully it will be an opportunity for Q to fix the other issues T P has.

Agree that's when they will 'finally get around' to fixing the problem. It IS a software bug that could have been prevented with more QA testing. But it is obvious (to me) that they didn't test this feature before their 'new 2018 version' release date. As I recall, we've had this problem in the past. You would think they would learn from past mistakes. It impacts most adversely those of us who depend upon the TP feature (which we paid for) to keep working for the previous year just a few weeks into January of the new year so that we can finish determining an accurate Q4 estimated tax payment. After Jan 15, it won't matter.

Strongly suggest everyone go into Quicken use Help/Report a problem to directly report this bug. If we all do this (and I've already done so) perhaps it will get fixed so we don't have same problem in 2019.

That's a good idea. If it works for you. That was one thing I wanted to report. However, clicking on that item to report a problem crashes the program putting up a dialog box wanting to know exactly what I was trying to do when the program crashed. Ironic, isn't it?

From an Eric Dunn/Quicken email this morning: '..And as we approach tax season, Quicken’s tax planner will be updated by the end
of this month to help you assess the impact of the new tax law passed by
Congress at the end of 2017..'

I got the same thing. That’s all we’ll and good but it avoids the issue that the Q2018 planner for the tax year 2017 STOPPED WORKING on January 1st. The functionality is in the Q18 program, (I know because I was using it in 12/30 and 12/31) but on Jan 1st planning for tax year 2017 wanted to pull in 2018 data. Clearly an untested portion of the Q18 coding.
